Wartime paper shortage?

I've got a couple of Max Brand's Dr. Kildare books; on the titles pages, there's a note about conservation of paper and regulations and whatnot.

I don't know if we're experiencing a similar thing today, but can someone please tell me why DVD manufacturers aren't making inserts for DVDs anymore?

I ordered Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, and it came today. It's the fourth newly-produced single-film DVD I've purchased in the last about six weeks or so; the others are Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Johnny Belinda. P&P and GoF have ad inserts: one for collectibles, one for a contest. Otherwise, there's nothing.

What's happened to the lost art of inserts? I mean, take Harry Potter. I'm fine with the change from the cardboard containers they had, 'cause frankly, I didn't like them. But, at least PoA had the booklet. And it was like the Mararuder's Map. Don't you think it would have been fun if there was a booklet for GoF that was like the Daily Prophet, with a Rita Skeeter article or something? Or, each page could look like one of the champions' submissions.

I mean, would it really have killed them to put, say, a more detailed cast list or a chapter list in there? Admittedly, I don't often use the chapter lists from the DVD inserts, but I like having them just the same.

And even my "Gilmore Girls" discs! The sets have included a little booklet with "Gilmore-isms" ("...the 411 on many of the sow's witty and memorable wordplays and pop culture references"); they're very cute, designed to look like composition notebooks. But, for Season 5, it's just the cover, basically, and you have to download the booklet if you want to read it. Come on, y'all; that's just cheap.

So, to all DVD producers out there: please bring back the useful insert; those little black paper holders in the cases just look silly without them.

In other news, I've got more down time 'cause of my work situation, but I'm still behind on HOL stuff and graphics stuff. But, at least I'm having fun. And it's nice seeing [info]ghost_e on IRC; he's funny. And he takes teasing rather well. *giggles about footwear*

Eh, I think the DVD company people are just getting lazy, and they probally think the fad's wearing off. Of course I don't think that - I love it when you get inserts! I wish one came with SiTR, but then again there was a lengthly insert in the soundtrack for it and that was pretty good.
